Looking for something to do Sunday afternoon, I wandered by the TKTS booth on Broadway and 45th to see what discounted tickets were available. Having read a bit about Million Dollar Quartet, I got a 1/2 price seat to that show - Row G on the right aisle!
Million Dollar Quartet was the name given to recordings made on Tuesday, December 4, 1956 in the Sun Record Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. These recordings were of an impromptu jam session between Elvis Presley (Eddie Clendening), Carl Perkins (Robert Britton Lyons), Johnny Cash (Lance Guest) and Jerry Lee Lewis (Levi Kreis). Tapes of the session remained "in the can" for over twenty years until tracks were released in 1981, 1987 and 2006 as new material was discovered. It is believed that the published material contains about 95% of the master recordings.
