Located in downtown San Antonio, the Mission San Antonio De Valero, now commonly known as The Alamo, was originally located on the Rio Grande River and moved to San Antonio in 1716. It was here that Col. William B. Travis and his defenders, including James Bowie and Davy Crockett, lost their lives in the historic fight for Texas independence.
