Leaving San Antonio for Dallas on Monday took us past Austin, the capital of Texas. Austin, the 4th largest city in Texas, was settled in the 1830's and was named after Stephen F. Austin, known as the father of Texas.
The cornerstone of the Italian Renaissance Revival Capitol was laid on May 2,1885, Texas Independence Day, and was composed of pink marble, used after the original Texas limestone began to discolor due to high iron content. The Capitol has been ranked #1 by the American Institute of Architects.
Austin is known as the Live Music Capital of the World, with more music venues per capita than any other U.S. city.
The skyscraper in the above photo is the Frost Tower Bank building.
After a quick stop for lunch with a good friend from Georgetown, we headed north to Dallas and Love Field to fly to Kansas City.
