The next Topeka sightseeing stop was the Great Overland Station, which began as a Union Pacific passenger railroad station in 1927. It has survived floods, was remodeled for railroad offices, abandoned in 1988, and damaged by fire in 1992. This beautiful building was leased by Railroad Heritage, Inc. from the Union Pacific Railroad to prevent demolition.
Today, the Great Overland Station houses a railroad museum inside and an all-veterans memorial outside.
