My friend/driving companion and I left Cocoa Beach Wednesday morning and leisurely drove the 2 lane roads across the state to Cape Coral. I settled in to my temporary living quarters and started exploring the area: library, post office, grocery, beach, Target...
Thursday was spent unpacking and arranging and Friday morning we headed to Fort Myers to board the jet powered Key West Express. This 40 mph vessel offered seating for 400, 2 outdoor decks, 2 indoor climate controlled cabins, large flat screen TV's, and full galley and bar.
Four hours later we boarded the Conch Tour Train, one of the island's most popular attractions. The expert "engineers" have entertained over ten millions guests since 1958 with the legends and lore of Key West's 400 years of history. On the tour we saw Harry S. Truman's Little White House, the Ernest Hemingway house, the lighthouse museum, the Southernmost Point, Sloppy Joe's Bar (favorite of Hemingway), the Audubon House, and Mallory Square. Just at sunset, we re-boarded the Key West Express and headed back to Fort Myers, arriving 3 hours later.
