A little about Cape Coral, FL:
Cape Coral is ranked among some of the safest cities in the country and is the fifth fastest growing city in the United States. Cape Coral has more than 400 miles of canals, more than the city of Venice, 27 miles of shoreline and is 114 square miles in area. The city is divided into 4 sections - SW, SE, NW, NE with the numbering system of the streets starting at the center of the city, from 1 to 59. The east-west roads are called Parkways, Terraces, Streets, and Lanes. The north-south streets are Boulevards, Courts, Places, and Avenues.
In 1957 two brothers, Leonard and Jack Rosen, from Baltimore, Maryland, spent weeks looking over Southwest Florida for a piece of property to develop. They purchased a parcel of land from Grandville Keller and Franklin Miles (owner of the Alka Seltzer Company) for $678,000. The area once known as Redfish Point was renamed Cape Coral. In 1958 the first residents moved into their home in the southwestern part of the Cape. Waterview homesteads then sold for $990, waterfront, $1,990, and riverfront (Caloosahatchee River) $3,390. Property sales the first year reached over $9 million. When sales reached a peak in 1969, Cape Coral was sold to General Acceptance Corporation of Allentown, Pennsylvania, for $250 million.
In 1970 Cape Coral was incorporated and became Florida's second largest in area, trailing only Jacksonville.
