4 Decades Of Miles at the Iridium

After the matinee, I took the subway from 66th to 50th and Broadway to have dinner at Nanking Japanese Restaurant on Broadway between 50th and 51st.

After dinner I walked a half block to the Iridium Jazz Club to see 4 Decades Of Miles featuring Jimmy Cobb, Buster Williams, Sonny Fortune, and Mike Stern, an all star band that paid homage to the greatest jazz innovator of all time, trumpeter Miles Davis.

Jimmy Cobb (drums) -played extensively with Dinah Washington, Pearl Bailey, Billie Holliday, Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie, Cannonball Adderly, joined Miles Davis in 1957, recorded the famous Davis albums Kind of Blue and Sketches of Spain, then worked with Winton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Wes Montgomery, then freelanced with Sonny Stitt, Nat Adderly, Sarah Vaughn, Hank Jones, Ron Carter, and Nancy Wilson

Buster Williams (bass) -played with Herbie Hancock, Dexter Gordon, Jimmy Heath, Nancy Wilson, Shirley Horn, the Jazz Crusaders, Billy Childs, Carl Allen

Sonny Fortune (sax) - played with Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner, Buddy Rich

Mike Stern (guitar) - got his start with Blood, Sweat & Tears, then joined up with Miles in the 80's, then with Jaco Pastorius

Amazing talent, amazing show!
