Wednesday started with a subway ride to Lincoln Center on 66th Street to see the Broadway matinee A Free Man Of Color at the Vivian Beaumont Theater.
Starring the amazing Jeffrey Wright as Jacques Cornet, Paul Dano as Merriweather Lewis, and a cast of 30 others, A Free Man Of Color is set in the boisterous New Orleans culture that existed just prior to the historic Louisiana Purchase, before law and order took hold, before class, racial, and political lines were drawn, when New Orleans was a parade of beautiful women and good looking men, flowing wine and pleasure for the taking. At the center of this world is Jaques Cornet, who commands the men and seduces the women. But the Louisiana Purchase will bring American rule to New Orleans, challenging the colorful and chaotic world of Jaques Cornet and all that he represents.
In addition to the superb acting, the costumes and set design were outstanding.
