Saturday morning in New York, I took the subway from Christopher Street to 79th and Broadway and then walked east 4 blocks to the American Museum of Natural History, the Hayden Planetarium and the Rose Center for Earth and Space. The museum comprises 26 interconnected buildings that house 46 permanent exhibits, research laboratory and its renowned library.
The museum was built in 1869 and now includes the largest collection of fossil mammals and dinosaurs in the world, the Hall of Meteorites, the Hall of Minerals and Gems, displays of human biology and evolution and numerous dioramas of Asian, African and North American mammals.
