After a great dinner at the Bijou Cafe in Sarasota, and a wonderful concert at the VanWezel Performing Arts Center, and drinks afterward at the Hyatt, we went to our "home" at the lovely Hotel Indigo, drank wine and gabbed until the wee hours.
The next morning we left for Clearwater by way of St. Petersburg in order to see the new Salvador Dali Museum. Designed by Yann Weymouth, the building is itself a work of art, featuring a geodesic glass structure outside consisting of 900 distinct triangular glass panels and a helical staircase inside as it architectural focus. The museum's collection includes 96 oil paintings, over 100 watercolors and drawings, 1,300 photos, sculptures, photographs, and objects d'art. The museum is home to 7 of the 18 masterwork paintings by Dali, the most of any museum in the world.
Salvador Dali is probably the most renowned artist in the world. By popularizing the art movement known as Surrealism, he forever changed the history of art, film and culture. Dali created a vast collection of work that is often as shocking as it is brilliant.
