Walking from the Library of Congress to Union Station, I passed the Supreme Court Building. Completed in 1935, this Beaux-Arts building was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987. It is a beautiful structure of Vermont, Alabama, Georgian, Spanish and Italian marble with 2 exterior statues, one on either side of the entrance steps - Contemplation of Justice and Authority of Law. The 5 story Supreme Court Building has its own police force and a gym with a tennis court nicknamed "the highest court in the land." I didn't know this building was accessible to the public, but since I learned they have a gift shop and exhibit hall, I'll be going back.
