The Mission of San Juan Capistrano, built in 1776, was the 7th of 21 missions dotting the California coastline. The most ornate of the churches, it was in use only 6 years when it collapsed during the 1812 earthquake. Today it is most famous for the return of the cliff swallows migrating from Argentina on March 19.
