Tonight I had dinner at Intentions in Overland Park where Tom Doherty's band Nine + 1 was performing.
Although Tom's day job is president if Keystone Nissan, he does have 2 degrees in saxophone performance and a history of teaching. Currently the band consists of Doherty, Brad Gregory and Todd Wilkinson on saxes, flutes, and other reeds; trumpeters Fred Mulholland, Daniel O'Brien, Clint Ashlock or Bob McCurdy, Jeff Hamer on trombone, Roger Wilder on piano, Tim Brewer (a dental surgeon) on bass, and Matt Leifer on drums. Rob Whitsitt is the +1 on guitar.
Right now the band has a book of 82 songs, enough for four nights without repeating a sound. And a great sound they have!
