Last night, Wednesday, I went to Jardine's Restaurant and Jazz Club for dinner and to hear the evening's performer, Julia Othmer.
Julia grew up in Overland Park and studied classical piano at age 7 and also studied piccolo, violin, and flute. At age 17 she moved to NYC to study music at Columbia University. Moving to Philadelphia after graduation, Julia cut the song Mission Control which was voted best rock song in Philadelphia. Julia was also nominated for Best Female Vocalist and Entertainer at the Philly Music Awards.
Julia bases her setlist and performance style on the audience, her mood, and the backing musicians. You never know what you're gonna get.......
Joining Julia were Johnny Griparic (her husband) on bass, a drummer, electric guitarist, and a violinist. It was unique and fun to see how a violin can fit into an indie pop group.
