Friday night I went to the first night of the 22nd annual Jazz In The Woods here in Kansas City, KS. This gathering of smooth jazz, blues and pop artists has become one of the biggest jazz events of the year. And it's free.
Sponsored by the Overland Park South Rotary Club, proceeds from the 2 day event are distributed to multiple charities in the area.
Performing at 6:30 was the Toronto based band Four 80 East featuring guitarist Matt Marshack and saxophonist Schilts.
At 7:50 were The Notables, a precise and powerful band from the United States Air Force.
And at 9:10, the headliners were guitarist Norman Brown and saxophonist Richard Elliott, two big names in the smooth jazz field. Richard was born in Scotland but raised in Los Angeles and Norman is a Kansas City native.
