Today, through Johnson County Park and Recreation, I toured both Missouri Town 1855 and the Longview Farm and Mansion, both located in Lee's Summit, Missouri.
Missouri Town preserves a way of life that has vanished from today's world. Nestled together on thirty sloping acres near Lake Jacomo, the homes, farms and businesses depict the era of peace and prosperity that preceded the Border and Civil Wars. The buildings largely date from the 1820's through the 1850's. Threatened by demolition and neglect in later years, each of the 25 buildings has been painstakingly dismantled, moved from its original location and reassembled to form Missouri Town 1855. Although a reproduction, both its character and appearance are based on in-depth research. Dressed in 1850's attire, staff and volunteers engage in activities to complement their period surroundings. You will also find authentic herb gardens and rare livestock breeds, original furnishings and equipment. A challenging way of life for sure.
