Wednesday's Broadway matinee was Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown at the Belasco Theatre (44th Street between 6th and 7th). Based on the film by Pedro Almodovar and starring Brian Stokes Mitchell, Sherie Renee Scott, Laura Benanti, Justin Guarini, and Patti LuPone, it tells the touching and hilarious story of women and the men who pursue them...finding them, losing them, needing them, and rejecting them. At the center is Pepa whose friends and lovers are blazing a trail through 1980's Madrid. There is Pepa's missing lover, his ex-wife of questionable sanity, their son Carlos, Pepa's friend and her terrorist boyfriend, a power suited lawyer and a taxi driver who dispenses tissues, mints, and advice. Mayhem and comic madness abound, balanced by empathy and heart.
