Yesterday in downtown Fort Myers at the Harborside Event Center I went to the National Wood Art Expo. The expo featured demonstrations, a silent auction, carving supplies, artists' displays and sales.
There were many incredible items by novice, intermediate, and expert carvers. However, it disappointed me that there were misspelled words on some of the entries (damm) and that a few of the carvings were not authentic in their colorings. For instance, there was a tufted titmouse painted blue! Why spend all the time on a beautiful carved depiction and then ruin it by painting it in the wrong colors?
Even so, the expo proved that there is an abundance of talent in this area of Florida by wood carvers.
The above photo of the Seven Drawfs won first overall in the competition.
