Topping the Rockefeller Christmas tree, as it has done since 2004, is a star made by the Swarovsky Company.
A striking combination of art, science, and technology, the Swarovsky Star required a team of 15 designers, lighting consultants, and engineers in Austria, Germany, and New York City. Taking over 12 weeks to design and over 2,500 hours to produce from creation to the final product, it was created and assembled in Germany and shipped in 20 crates to New York City to be displayed atop the iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.
The Star is comprised of over 25,000 crystals sparkling with one million facets. It measures 9 1/2 feet in diameter, 1 1/2 feet deep, and weighs nearly 600 pounds. By combining the latest in LED technology, and amazingly consuming less power than a 100 watt light bulb, the Star combines panels of light with sparkling facets to create a dazzling effect.
