After checking into the Sohotel and having a glass of white and a light dinner, I taxied over to 7th Avenue and 11th Street to see the jazz group Inside Straight at the legendary (but "basement smelly") Village Vanguard.
Led by Philadelphia bassist Christian McBride, the group Inside Straight was formed in 2009 and includes Steve Wilson on saxophone, Carl Allen on drums, the multi-talented Warren Wolf on vibes and Peter Martin on piano. Peter, however, was in Europe touring with Dianne Reeves, so the young (22) Christian Scott sat in. Those were some pretty big shoes to fill.
