Monday morning bright and early (6:30) I gathered 4 of my Baltimore gal pals and headed to New York City. We all took the subway from 28th and 7th down to Christopher Street/Sheridan Square and since we had a few extra minutes I took them on a walk past the Blue Note to Washington Square Park where they were shocked to see a display of public urination. We then walked a few blocks to Murray's Cheese Shop on Bleecker where we met our guide for the food tasting and cultural walking tour.
Our first stop was Joe's Pizza on Carmine across from Father Demo Square where we enjoyed a slice of regular cheese pizza. Next was the O&Co, Mediterranean Food Merchant, where we sampled a selection of olive oils on bread from Amy's. Next up was the Cornelia Street Cafe, Centro Vinoteca (where we had truffle eggs and Gorgonzola/bacon wrapped dates), the Milk And Cookies Bakery, Murray's Cheese Shop, Rocco's Bakery, and finally Bleecker Street Pizza for a sample and a vote on the better slice, Bleecker Street Pizza being declared the winner. Along the way we learned of the history and the architecture of the Greenwich Village area.
