After touring the Lansing Capitol building, I headed over to the Michigan Library and Historical Center. The Michigan library is the 2nd largest state library building in the United States with 5 stories containing over 3.2 million different items which take up over 27 miles of shelving. It also contains one of the 10 largest genealogical collections in the country. Another impressive feature of the library is its centuries old collection of legal materials.
The Michigan Museum, within the Historical Center, follows a timeline from Michigan's early inhabitants to present day, including its music history (Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Motown), the auto industry (Henry Ford, Ransom Olds), and athletics (Al Kaline, Gordie Howe).
