After touring the Museum of Arts and Design and enjoying the 125 piece collection of jewelry by artistic giants like Picasso and Rickey, I walked 14 blocks down 8th Street to the Al Hirschfeld Theater to see the Broadway musical How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.
Starring Daniel Radcliffe (of Harry Potter fame), John Larroquette (of Night Court) and narrated by Anderson Cooper, How To Succeed told the story of J. Pierrepont Finch, a young window cleaner with a mind for advancement, eventually becoming Chairman of the Board of the World Wide Wicket Company, all by reading the book How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, which tells him everything he needs for success.
The musical originally opened on Broadway in 1961 (1,417 performances) winning 7 Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. In 1967 a film based on the musical was released starring many of the original Broadway cast members. A 1995 revival was mounted at the Richard Rodgers Theater (same theater as the original) starring Matthew Broderick and Megan Mullaly which ran for 548 performances. The present show, which opened in March, is a 50th Anniversary revival.
