The burrowing owl is a tiny long-legged owl found throughout North and South American open landscapes. The nest and roost in burrows, and are often active during the day. They have bright yellow eyes, prominent white eyebrows and a white chin patch. The burrowing owl is endangered in Canada, threatened in Mexico, and a species of special concern in Florida. There are an estimated 2,500 owl burrows in the city of Cape Coral. The first burrowing owl was spotted here in 1968.
