Thursday night, singer/songwriter Sy Smith performed at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage. With her talent, hard work, and energy, Sy has emerged as one of the leaders of the indie soul movement.
Raised in DC, Sy studied classical piano for most of her childhood and early teens, but later found love in jazz and soul. She holds a degree in psychology with a minor in Music Therapy from Howard University. Sy has sung backup for Eric Benet, Brandy, Usher, Macy Gray, Jamie Foxx and Whitney Houston. Sy also appeared regularly on television with Vonda Shepard on FOX's Ally McBeal series and has been one of the backup vocalists for American Idol. She now regularly joins Rickey Minor and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno band.
Sy's latest single "Truth" with Mark de Clive Lowe is causing a stir in the dance/electronic world.
