My evening Broadway performance was Noel Coward's play A Brief Encounter at Studio 54's Roundabout Theatre. This was a classic tale of forbidden romance, whimsical humor, and stunning multi-media effects. Using elements of the film and the play on which it was based, along with song and dance, A Brief Encounter tells the story of a suburban housewife, who, over a series of stolen afternoons, falls madly in love with a married doctor. Does he leave to make a difference in Africa? Does she return to playing the piano?
Studio 54 was originally a Broadway theatre, then a CBS radio and television studio, and then in the 70's it became a busy discotheque, closing in March, 1986. Since 1988, it has been a venue for the Roundabout Theatre Company.
