In contrast, the design of the National Gallery of Art's East Building by architect I.M. Pei is rigorously geometrical, with its most dramatic feature a high atrium designed as an open interior court and enclosed by a structural space frame measuring 16,000 square feet. The East Building focuses on modern and contemporary art, and includes works by Alexander Calder, Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jackson Pollock, Pablo Picasso, Chuck Close, Mark Rothko and Wassily Kadinsky.
