After touring the Somerset Historical Center and the Quecreek Mine Rescue Site we headed to lunch at the famous Oakhurst Tea Room, a smorgasbord and dessert bar which has been in business since 1933.
Located on PA Route 381 South in Mill Run, PA, in an area called the Laurel Highlands, Fallingwater, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, was named one of "50 Places of a Lifetime" by National Geographic Traveler magazine. It is considered Wright's most widely acclaimed work. Dramatically cantilevered over a Bear Run River waterfall, Fallingwater is also considered to be the best all-time work of American architecture and is Wright's most sublime integration of man and nature.
Fallingwater was designed in 1935 for the Edgar J. Kaufmann family. Mr. Kaufmann was a prominent businessman and philanthropist who owned the Kaufmann Department store, the most prominent department store in Pittsburgh which later became Macy's.
