Before coming home from NYC Saturday afternoon, I walked to Grand Central Terminal on 42nd Street and Lexington. This is a spectacular building that officially opened February 2, 1913. Its infrastructure gradually declined and in 1976 Jackie Kennedy Onassis and others worked to have Grand Central designated a National Historic Landmark and consequently, improvements costing hundreds of millions of dollars were made. The revitalization project was completed in 1998 and now the Terminal has been restored to its original 1913 splendor. In addition to transportation, Grand Central has 5 exquisite restaurants, including the world famous Oyster Bar, a gourmet market and many specialty shops.
