The Belltower Theater in Ft. Myers hosted a presentation of the Goat Rodeo Sessions Tuesday night. The sessions came about when Thile and Meyer, who played on Ma's Songs of Joy and Peace album, suggested a future collaboration. The result was a blending of classical and bluegrass and has been dubbed "genre proof."The sessions players were Yo-Yo Ma (cello), Chris Thile (mandolin, violin, guitar, vocals), Edgar Meyer (acoustic bass, piano), and Stuart Duncan (guitar, banjo, violin, mandolin). Aoife O'Donovan joined the group on vocals for two tracks.
A goat rodeo is an aviation (and other higher risk scenarios) term that suggests in order for one to walk away from a situation, about 100 things have to go right.
