Established in 1945, Boordy Vineyards is Maryland's oldest winery. Located twenty miles north of Baltimore, the winery sits in the gentle hills of the Long Green Valley. Today was Soups in the Cellar day, when homemade soups and rustic organic breads were paired with Boordy wine samples. Local music was provided by The Gigs, who I have to admit, did great covers of songs by the Doors, the Beatles, the Hollies, the Beau Brummels and many others. I took a half hour tour of the vineyards and learned how grapes are grown, picked, pressed and aged. I also learned that the large barn on the Boordy grounds was where the luau scene was filmed in the movie Runaway Bride.
